Eurol in Dakar: De Soultrait and Coronel take first victories

Eurol is back in Dakar again. We support a lot of participants in the Dakar Rally and we bring you an update every day about their achievements in the toughest rally of the world.

Xavier de Soultrait and Maikel Verkade
Xavier de Soultrait did himself a massive pleasure by winning the first 39-kilometre long special stage of the rally. The French rider took the stage win with two seconds advantage to the second rider. A few minutes later he got a time penalty later and lost his top position. Maikel Verkade gained a lot of places during the first stage of the Dakar. Starting in 103th position, he overtook a lot of riders and finished 66th. A good start for Verkade who rides his second Dakar.

Robert van Pelt and Jasper Riezebos
Robert van Pelt had a solid start with the thirtieth place in the first stage. Van Pelt is one of the main contenders for the win in the malle moto-category, he needs to be cautious on his bike and himself. Jasper Riezebos is all on his own aswell in the malle-moto. The cranedriver rode a solid stage today and finished 104th.

Kees Koolen
Kees Koolen spent a lot of time in the past year building his own quad. Koolen got the homologation done just in time and is able to start with the Barren Racing machine. Koolen finished in sixth place today.

Erik van Loon and Ebert Dollevoet
Erik van Loon is new to the Toyota Hilux after quitting the Mini-team. He tested the car a lot but had to get in the flow on the first stage of the 2017 Dakar. It all went well for Van Loon who finished in tenth position, despite some minor problems. Ebert Dollevoet is a hard trier. He’s starting his ninth Dakar and is still looking for a first finish. Today went well for Dollevoet who finished just outside the top-30

Coronel
The Coronel brothers were added to a new category before this Dakar. In the UTV-class, they dominated in the first stage. Tim Coronel took the win, well over a minute in front of his brother Tom.

Three of the Euol truck teams in top -10
Three of the contenders in the truck category, supported by Eurol, came through in the top-10 today. Martin van den Brink had a brilliant start after a miserable year. He got third place in a fast and furious stage. Just behind Van den Brink was Peter Versluis, the captain of the Eurol/Veka MAN Rallyteam. Versluis finished in seventh place, just in front of his teammate Artur Ardavichus.

Riwald
Gert Huzink feels confident with his all new Renault truck. After winning the Morocco Rally in 2016, he wants to get a top ten spot in this years Dakar. The first stage went well for Huzink who finished well within the top fifteen.

TopTrucksDakar and Team Tilburgs Truck Parts
Vick Versteijnen of the TopTrucks Dakar Team had a solid start with his Scania Torpedo truck. He finished in 16th place, just in front of Pascal de Baar of Mammoet Rallysport. Frank Tilburgs has made progress over the year and he showed it already in the first stage by finishing within the top-25.

Rotsaert and Van de Laar
The Belgian Steven Rotsaert drove a good first stage, finishing in 22nd. Jan van de Laar did a good job by starting his second Dakar as a driver with 26th position in the overall standings.
