Nasser Al-Attiyah hasn’t made a single mistake since his first win of the Dakar Rally. The leader of Toyota Gazoo Racing took another win on Wednesday, although he had a long fight with Henk Lategan. At certain stages of the leg, Lategan was quicker than Al-Attiyah. Al-Attiyah only secured the win in the last 40 kilometres of the stage. Lategan ended in third place, but was praised by Al-Attiyah afterwards. "It wasn't an easy stage”, Al-Attiyah said. “We lost a minute to an error, but we were hardly the only ones to make a mistake and we quickly got back on track. Opening up a gap is difficult, but today it was good to have my teammate Henk Lategan right behind me. That's exactly what I need, a fast driver who can help me out."
Giniel de Villiers showed his potential in the fourth stage to Riyadh. The experienced driver had a lot of trouble in the opening days of the race, but bounced back with P15 in stage 4. Shameer Variawa had one of his better days during stage 4, he finished just outside of the top-20.
After the departure of Bernhard ten Brinke, Tim and Tom Coronel are leading the classification for the Dutch teams in the Dakar Rally. The twin brothers had some problems after they found an oil leak in the car, but it didn’t stop them from getting a decent result on stage 4. They finished in P40 and have plenty of time to fix the leak for tomorrow.
Martin van den Brink has been known for his steady progress during this rally. He once again proved a point on the fourth stage, where finished in P10. In the overall classification it means that Van den Brink had made up another place and is now in seventh. After a long day surfing on the Saudi dunes, Mitchel van den Brink had another decent day on Wednesday. Where others have made mistakes during the first days of the rally, Van den Brink junior has build a steady pace and that brings him to the top-20.
Things are looking even better for Pascal de Baar now. While the team is working hard to get the truck of Gert Huzink back on the road, De Baar is making steady progress. It resulted in P12 on the 337 km long stage to Riyadh.
