Heavy-duty bearings in a rolling mill

When rolling heavy materials, bearings are subjected to extreme pressure. If the lubricating grease used cannot handle this load, the rolling mill is at risk of premature wear, unexpected downtime, and high repair or replacement costs. In this case study, you will learn how a Haeusler Type VRM-hy CNC rolling mill faced recurring lubrication issues and how the use of the right grease made a difference.
Description of the situation

The grease used in the Haeusler Type VRM-hy CNC roll was not sufficient for the heavily loaded bearings. The revolutions are not high, but the pressure on the bearing was enormous. Various greases have been tried, but the main problem is that the oil is squeezed out of the thickener. As a result, the lubricating film flows away and damage occurs. Replacing a single set of main bearings costs €20,000. This concerns a main bearing and labor costs. The costs of downtime are not included in this. Each roll contains three rollers.

Type of machineHaeusler CNC rolling machine
Solution

Eurol Grease CS-2/103S can withstand extremely high pressure and has good flow properties to ensure proper lubrication of the bearing at all times. It exhibits minimal to no oil bleeding, keeping the lubrication in the right place. The Syngis technology provides better protection to the bearings.

Result

Thanks to the protection offered by the product, there was no longer a need to replace the bearings in the rolling mill. Improving the lubrication resulted in a significant difference. By eliminating the need for replacement, the company saved €60,000.
