Eurol in Dakar 2021 stage 9: Unlucky Al-Attiyah battles on

The ninth stage of the 2021 Dakar Rally brought some adversity for the teams supported by Eurol. But even with an uphill battle in the upcoming days, the fighting spirit remains as high as ever.

Toyota Gazoo Racing

Nothing is lost yet, but Nasser Al-Attiyah faced a major blow on Tuesday. In the hunt for the win, Al-Attiyah had three punctures and had to slow the pace to finish the stage. As a result, he lost a lot of time against his biggest rival. Despite that, he still finished in second place and has a lot to fight for in the closing days of the race. The three times winner of the Dakar trails Peterhansel now by 17.50 minutes in the general standings.
Despite difficulties during the last days, Giniel de Villiers has showed his tremendous potential once again. The South African finished in third on one of the longest stages of this years Dakar. Shameer Variawa couldn’t fight for another top-10 in the ninth stage after some time loss in the early stages, but he recovered in the second part and stays well in the game.

Tim & Tom Coronel

Tuesday saw another decent performance of Tim and Tom Coronel. After initially starting slowly, the Coronel brothers are now in the hunt for their best ever effort in the Dakar. In the ninth stage they finished in 25th and are eager to win even some more places in the next days.

Mammoet Rallysport

Martin van den Brink had to take it a bit slower than he would have liked in stage 9, but still managed to get a solid result. Van den Brink finished in P7 and did once again a nice job for the overall standings. He remains in 7th. The participants had to manage their cars during the tricky special stage. Although Mitchel van den Brink lost some time halfway, he’s still going strong.

Riwald Dakar Team

Pascal de Baar was eyeing a top-10 spot in the general standings, but he hit trouble on Tuesday. The sole remaining member of the Riwald Dakar Team lost 90 minutes while fixing the truck, but remains in P11 with three days to go.
