The situation

At food producer Polskamp, a gearbox runs daily in the production process. This application offered the opportunity to investigate the influence of lubrication on machine performance under real-world conditions.

Our solution

The gearbox was fitted with Eurol Lube 220-S FD: a fully synthetic NSF H1 Specialty lubricant with SYNGIS Technology. To measure the effect of the oil change, the installation was equipped with sensors. Current consumption and vibrations were continuously monitored using Eurol Lubrication System (ELS). Subsequently, seven representative production days before and after the oil change were compared.

After the switch, a 5.8% lower average power consumption and an 11.3% lower average vibration value were measured. The calculated energy saving amounted to approximately 0.55 kWh per operating hour. These results show what the change in lubrication yielded during daily production in this application.

What does that mean in Euros?

With 80 operating hours per week and an electricity price of €0.20 per kWh, the measured energy saving of 0.55 kWh per operating hour can amount to approximately €440 per year per machine (assuming 50 production weeks). For large production companies with hundreds of machines, the potential savings can therefore add up significantly.
