Giniel de Villiers Winner stage 9 Dakar Rally 2022

Eurol in Dakar 2022: De Villiers victorious as Toyota claims podium lockout

Giniel de Villiers took his first stage win of this years Dakar Rally in a frantic stage 9. It wasn’t the only success for the teams supported by Eurol as two of De Villiers’ teammates climbed onto the podium as well.

Toyota GAZOO Racing had one of it’s most successful days in the Dakar Rally to date with a podium lockout on stage 9. Giniel de Villiers won the stage after a solid day, Henk Lategan followed shortly after him. The compatriots were separated by just 9 seconds at the finish of the fast stage around Wadi Ad-Dawasir. Overall leader Nasser Al-Attiyah bounced back after his troubles on Monday and recorded a 3rd place in the stage. Overall his lead is still over 39 minutes. Shameer Variawa was the last driver of Toyota GAZOO Racing who’s had a decent day. He finished in 11th place.

Bernhard ten Brinke

Bernhard ten Brinke was forced to sit in the dust for a major part of the stage, which cost him some time. Last year, Ten Brinke crashed on this stage and was happy to reach the finish of this one. He finished in 12th place, only 4 minutes behind the days winner.

Mammoet Team De Rooy Iveco

After a run of bad luck Martin van den Brink returned in the top 10 on Tuesday’s stage. The Mammoet Rallysport leader finished in 8th place and was the best Dutchman in the race. His son and fast assistance Mitchel van den Brink brought his Powerstar home safe after lending some help to some of his teammates. The 19-year-old finished in 13th place.

Riwald Dakar Team

Gert Huzink finished a decent day behind the wheel in P12, only a few minutes behind his teammate Pascal de Baar.
